I have been so super busy planning my husband’s 30th birthday that I have not had any time to blog! His party was last weekend and I am so excited to tell you all about it!
I wanted to do something really special for my husband for his 30th birthday! I wanted a sophisticated yet fun party for him with all of his friends. It was really important to me to make sure that the party was things that he liked and something that he would have picked himself. I first thought of a “Cigar and Whiskey” theme, but then switched to “Scotch and Cigars”. I worked with an amazing event planned who gave me some of the ideas. It helped that my in laws have a beautiful spacious backyard that is perfect for parties. My mother in law is an amazing cook and she also makes beautiful flowers. So she was able to make all of the centerpieces. The party was at night so we used a lot of candles and lanterns to add more light to the different stations of the party. The set up was a lot of work so thank God my sister and brother in law my mom and my mother in law were all there to help me. I think I moved each of the tables around at least 5 times.
I rented wine barrel bar tables from a local company called Vintage Affairs. I wanted a real rustic feel and tried to incorporate a lot of wood. I ordered a customer wooden sign from Etsy to be the centerpiece of the Scotch bar. The wood that the Scotches are displayed on are actually wooden cake slabs that I ordered from Amazon. My husband loves Scotch so a good friend helped me find a very unique selection of scotches for the event.
On the other end of the Scotch bar I had a small “Shot Bar” because my husband loves shots. Let’s just say the bar was a huge hit!
I wanted to incorporate my husband’s love of cigars for the party. I started out with researching different brands of Cigars that I know he likes, but then I decided that hiring a cigar roller would be a much better idea. I ordered custom labels from Etsy with Areen’s name on them to add a little more of a personal touch to the cigars.
FOOD & DESSERT
The party started late so I was not serving a full dinner, but I wanted to have food that was filling. I worked with iCater.menu to pick out some fun items that my husband would enjoy. My mother in law made her famous hummus, babaghanoush and pirashkis filled with potato and meat. My father in law and Classic Bakery made the most incredible cake for Areen along with cupcakes, cake pops, and chocolate cigars. I am very blessed with incredibly talented in laws.

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a few weeks. I went on a fabulous vacation to Miami followed by a cruise to the Caribbean. About a week before I left for my trip, I found out that my dog, Romeo, has heart disease. He is only 9 years old, so this came as a huge shock. It all began when he developed a chronic cough, so I took him to see his vet and during his examination, the vet heard a heart murmur. He had just had his yearly check up 2 months ago and everything was fine, so this was not the diagnosis I was expecting to hear when I brought Romeo in. After seeing the vet, I had to take Romeo to an animal cardiologist so they could do an Echocardiogram. On the Echocardiogram they discovered that he has a leaky heart valve, and one of his chambers is slightly enlarged which means he has degenerative heart disease. For all you pet owners out there, I’m sure you can understand how hard it is when you find out that your dog has a problem.
While I was away on my trip, my mom was able to stay with Romeo, and he has been on antibiotics and cough medicine for his cough since. I came back from my trip Saturday night and now he is on heart medicine. I also have to monitor his breathing and put him on a low sodium diet. When I first found out, I was a mess and I was very nervous to leave him for 10 days. Now that I am back and I see that he is acting the same, I am feeling better and I am hoping and praying that his heart disease does not progress quickly. I wanted to share this with you all so you would understand why I haven’t posted anything in a few weeks, but I’m back! I’ve been updating my Instagram even though I have not had a chance to put together any blog posts. I was not able to post very much from my Caribbean cruise because my phone was barely working. I had an amazing trip and can’t wait to share it with all of you. I will also keep you updated on Romeo’s progress.
Romeo when he was a puppy. My husband gave him to me for Valentine’s day when we first started dating 9 years ago.
Hope everyone had a blessed Christmas. I took a little break last week because the holidays are always a busy time. I was up until 2 a.m. a few nights wrapping gifts because I am a little crazy when it comes to wrapping all my gifts perfectly. This is my favorite time of the year so I wanted to share my Christmas with all of you. I love the memories that I make with my family and how cozy your home feels with a Christmas tree in it. We didn’t get a chance to get a real Christmas tree this year so we put up the fake one that we bought a few years ago and it came pre-lit which was a nice little perk. I missed the Christmas tree smell so I got an amazing candle from Southmoonunder. Every year I choose a theme for my tree and my gift wrap. This year my tree was pink and gold so I also wrapped all my gifts in pink and gold. I get my wrapping paper from Papyrus, Home Goods, Target, and sometimes Hallmark and I get my ribbons from Michaels. If you go to Michaels now all the Christmas ribbons are on sale so its a great time to stock up for next year. Papyrus has a great sale every year around Christmas, their wrapping paper is buy1 get 1 50% off.
We have a Christmas tradition where my husband and I open our gifts on Christmas morning and then go to my mother in laws house for breakfast, more gifts, and spend the day together. This year was extra special because we have the most amazing blessing in our family, my little niece, Noela Vana.
Check back early next week for my holiday outfits.
