So we are heading into winter and that actually makes me want to run screaming in the direction of LA.
Since I won’t be leaving the mid-atlantic region anytime soon, I have to at least try to make the best out of the frozen tundra that is upon us. To keep myself warm, I make sure to stock up on cozy accessories! I love comfy socks, sweaters, scarves, pajamas, and anything that will keep me from shivering uncontrollably. Below are some of my favorite things to keep you looking cute and comfy while you sip your hot coco and watch the snow fall through the winter months.
Free People has an amazing selection of socks this season. I will include a few of them, but go to their website for more because I honestly love all of them!
Halloween is next week! Are you ready? If you are not you have come to the right place! I love to dress up and I love to be unique! I went to an 80s party this past weekend so that inspired me to talk about Halloween costumes. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to put some of these costumes together. Can’t wait to see what everyone dresses up as next week!
Thank you for reading!
My favorite costume that I have ever done was Lara Croft and it was probably the easiest.
I wore black spandex shorts and a black t-shirt. My husband went to the ranger surplus store and got a couple of toy guns you can try a Halloween store or any toy store to find something like this and gun holsters like these. I also got black boots like these which I ended up wearing for a few years after!
Any 80s costume is usually easy and amazing!
I did 80’s material girl/Madonna inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker on Sex and the City. I can’t take all the credit as my amazing cousin found this idea for me. I had a complete costume disaster on the day of the party, my corset never shipped because Victoria Secret had my wrong billing address and my tutu dress got locked in my mailbox and I was still able to pull this off. I found a tutu like skirt in my closet you need something like this. I have pearls and had already gotten a black corset belt like this and lace tights so all I needed was a corset, denim vest, and something to wear in my hair. I went to Victoria’s Secret and got a corset that is not available online because it was on sale! For my denim vest I got a long sleeveless denim shirt like this from Forever 21 and cut it up. It was such a fun costume to do so I highly recommend this one!
I cannot believe its already fall! Where has the summer gone? I’m not a big fan of the fall because all I can think about is that winter is coming and winters in the mid-atlantic are brutal. The only bright side of fall is fashion week — and of course boots, jackets, scarves, comfy sweaters, cuddling by the fireplace and hot cocoa ;). So ladies, without further adieu, it’s time to put away all your sun dresses, bathing suits, and flip flops and get out your jeans, boots, and scarves! To kick-start the fall spirit, I am going to share my favorite denim looks because recently I am seeing denim everywhere! This season, there really is something for everyone. My favorite look is the high wasted flair with a crop top or tucked in blouse. I recently tried on this fabulous pair of Blank NYC jeans at SouthMoonUnder that I think I am going to have to go back and get. They are currently 20% off so don’t miss out!
#1 Rag & Bone Thrasher $295 – these are probably one of my favorite jeans that I have ever bought I just love them! If you are going to go for ripped might as well go all out!
#2 Whitefox Boutique $64.96 AUD
I have been so super busy planning my husband’s 30th birthday that I have not had any time to blog! His party was last weekend and I am so excited to tell you all about it!
I wanted to do something really special for my husband for his 30th birthday! I wanted a sophisticated yet fun party for him with all of his friends. It was really important to me to make sure that the party was things that he liked and something that he would have picked himself. I first thought of a “Cigar and Whiskey” theme, but then switched to “Scotch and Cigars”. I worked with an amazing event planned who gave me some of the ideas. It helped that my in laws have a beautiful spacious backyard that is perfect for parties. My mother in law is an amazing cook and she also makes beautiful flowers. So she was able to make all of the centerpieces. The party was at night so we used a lot of candles and lanterns to add more light to the different stations of the party. The set up was a lot of work so thank God my sister and brother in law my mom and my mother in law were all there to help me. I think I moved each of the tables around at least 5 times.
I rented wine barrel bar tables from a local company called Vintage Affairs. I wanted a real rustic feel and tried to incorporate a lot of wood. I ordered a customer wooden sign from Etsy to be the centerpiece of the Scotch bar. The wood that the Scotches are displayed on are actually wooden cake slabs that I ordered from Amazon. My husband loves Scotch so a good friend helped me find a very unique selection of scotches for the event.
On the other end of the Scotch bar I had a small “Shot Bar” because my husband loves shots. Let’s just say the bar was a huge hit!
I wanted to incorporate my husband’s love of cigars for the party. I started out with researching different brands of Cigars that I know he likes, but then I decided that hiring a cigar roller would be a much better idea. I ordered custom labels from Etsy with Areen’s name on them to add a little more of a personal touch to the cigars.
FOOD & DESSERT
The party started late so I was not serving a full dinner, but I wanted to have food that was filling. I worked with iCater.menu to pick out some fun items that my husband would enjoy. My mother in law made her famous hummus, babaghanoush and pirashkis filled with potato and meat. My father in law and Classic Bakery made the most incredible cake for Areen along with cupcakes, cake pops, and chocolate cigars. I am very blessed with incredibly talented in laws.
In my last post I told you all about my adventures in Mykonos! After Mykonos, we went to Santorini. I have to say that was a perfect sequence of the vacation: go crazy in Mykonos then go to Santorini to relax and detox. Santorini is very different from Mykonos. The weather in Mykonos was pretty windy and it was never super hot. Santorini was very hot! We stayed in Oia, which is the village that is in most pictures of Santorini. It is located at the very tip of Santorini and has most breathtaking views of the sunset. It’s absolutely stunning, and if you’ve ever seen any pictures from santorini chances are they were taken on a cliffside in Oia. The entire village is built into the cliff and most of the hotels are small and have incredible views. We stayed at a little hotel called Armeni Village, and it was the cutest place. Our room looked like a little cave. It is very romantic there, but there are a lot of tourists and not that much to do besides admire the views. The sunset is so much more amazing than I ever imagined! I felt like I was in a dream.
One of the best things we did on the island was a Catamaran Cruise around the entire volcano and island. We went by the red beach, the white beach, and went swimming by the hot springs. Where else are you going to go swimming in a volcano??? Also, the best meal we had in Santorini was on the catamaran, the crew cooked everything fresh while we enjoyed the sun and the breathtaking views.
Wow it’s been a while! July was a crazy month! My hubby and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary and went on a fabulous trip to Greece. Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin because it was truly the most amazing trip we have ever taken. We went to Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. Our trip was definitely the trip of a lifetime. We were very lucky that our friends were in Greece at the same time and gave us a VIP experience. I think I am going to have to split this up into a few posts because we did so much and I want to tell you all about it!
Our fist stop was Athens for a day and a half before we left for Mykonos. I have always heard wonderful things about Mykonos and was so excited to experience it especially because we were there with friends. Now I have been to a lot of crazy places in my life in Europe and in the US., but let me tell you, Mykonos is a different world! The beach parties are out of control, the food is beyond words, the music, the restaurants, the shopping, the nightlife is all best of the best, and the atmosphere is perfection! The Greeks have their party schedule down. In Vegas, the problem is that the day parties are amazing, but the last time we went, we all fell asleep after Drai’s and woke up at 11 p.m. and at that point it was too late to get ready to go back out. In Mykonos, everyone goes to dinner around 1 a.m, and then the night begins. You sleep on the beach the next day until you do it all over again because the beach parties don’t start until around 7 p.m..
Make sure to bring a lot of flats with you because the roads are really bad so at night, unless you want to break your legs, most girls wear sandals. I hated the idea at first because I practically live in my heels, but I have to say I have never been more comfortable in my life. It is such a good feeling when at the end of the night you are still dancing and your feet don’t feel like you are walking on nails. Also, there are no taxis (they have about 25 on the entire island) so be prepared to walk home unless you have super amazing friends that will drive you home. If all else fails you can rent a car, a 4-wheeler, or a scooter if you want to brave the mountainous roads. They are especially fun if you are going home at 5 a.m. along with everyone else who has been out all night. We were lucky that our friends recommended we find a hotel in Mykonos Town or close to it, which we did.
We stayed at the luxurious, Ostraco Suites, too bad we didn’t spend very much time at the hotel because we were out most of the time. We never even made it to the breakfast they have by the pool every morning. The island is absolutely beautiful and the views are spectacular. It feels very surreal when you are at a beach party overlooking the Aegean sea and mountains with the sunset in the background.
I cannot believe it’s already July and I have not talked about sunglasses! I love love love sunglasses! I never leave the house without a pair, and I even throw on a pair in the winter when it’s not that sunny. I think sunglasses are like shoes, you can’t leave home without them. I also think it’s important to match your sunnies with what you are wearing which is why I have a nice collection that I have compiled over the years. I am very picky with my sunglasses and I’m sure you all know that not all sunglasses look good on everyone so when I get a new pair I get really excited. This past January, I got a pair of these Dita ones that I wore on 4th of July in the picture below. Actually, my husband bought them for himself and I stole them because I loved them so much. Before these, I think I hadn’t found sunglasses that I really liked in over 2 years. I am very happy with the Dita brand because unlike most sunglass brands, Dita actually designs and makes their own sunglasses and these particular ones have 18 karat gold hardware ;). When you pick up a pair of Dita’s and see the quality and craftsmanship that they put into each pair, you will quickly realize not all sunglasses are equal.
As always, I am going to include a few pairs of my favorite sunglasses that I have seen out there for all you shopaholics out there.
This past weekend was my niece’s Christening! Most of you know how obsessed I am with her. I fell in love with Noela the moment she was born and words cannot describe how much happiness this little princess has brought into my life – she is truly a blessing. My husband and I are very honored to be Noela’s Godparents. For the christening, my sister in law asked us, the family, to all wear white. It was such a great idea! We have only gotten a sneak peak at the pictures, but what we have seen so far looks gorgeous! My niece wore a custom made white lace dress with crystals, seriously you would melt looking at her because she looked so freaking cute!!! She looked like a little Angel and Princess all in one.
As for me: there are a lot of beautiful white dresses out there, but not all are Church appropriate. I wanted to find something that was a little above my knees so not too short. I didn’t want sleeves because the church gets hot, but I didn’t want it too open on the top either again because I wanted to be Church appropriate. I was so excited when I came across a white Milly sheath dress at a boutique in Georgetown. I had to get it altered a little bit because it was a little loose in my waist, but it turned perfect! The dress that I got is a vintage, but I posted some of the other dresses I considered for the occasion at the bottom of this post. Feel free to e-mail me at Masha@MashaGabriella.com if you are looking for something specific and I’ll help you find it!
I’m sure you have noticed by now that fringe is kind of a big deal this season! It has been slowly making a name for itself and now it’s everywhere. I wasn’t really into fringe until my best friend got me this amazing fringe vegan leather skirt, but now I am obsessed! I paired my skirt with a white cropped tee and some gold jewelry for a very simple yet polished black & white look.
I am loving fringe because it is so fun, and there are so many ways you can incorporate it into your wardrobe. I would definitely invest in at least one fringe piece because it isn’t going anywhere for a while. To help you out, I’ll share some of my favorite fringetastic finds at the bottom of the post. Happy shopping!
With the start of a new season, us women are usually thinking about how to update our wardrobe for that season without buying entirely new sets of clothes. One of the fun ways to achieve not breaking the bank, is to get new accessories like a new bag that you can use over and over again. It’s not like buying a new shirt or skirt that you will wear once in a while. This season is all about the bucket bag. So here is a selection of some of my favorites. My theory on purchasing new purses is I only splurge on classics that I can use for years. Below I’ve included a few splurges, but mostly reasonably priced ones that are not going to put a hole in your wallet and you won’t feel bad if next year you no longer want it.
Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below or feel free to e-mail me at Masha@MashaGabriella.com
